Campus Movie Fest Hollywood Staff Pick!

Thrilled to announce that ‘Sam and Sam Throw a Mexican Fiesta’ will be playing as part of the Campus Movie Fest festival in Hollywood in June as a STAFF PICK!

Very exciting!

BEA Award

An Original TV Pilot Script that I wrote won Second Place at the 2014 BEA Media Arts Festival.

The festival is for all American University Students and Faculty in Broadcasting.

My script is an Animated Children’s TV Pilot titled ‘Gonzalez Family Detective Agency’ that
centres around a single dad, Miguel, who solves local crimes with his children. Miguel immigrated
to the US from Mexico and lives with his family in San Francisco. The show explores the themes
of cultural identity and community and the concept of the family unit.

Campus Movie Fest Entry

I entered a big competition in America called Campus Movie Fest, which is the world’s largest student film festival and based in American universities. The brief is to make a five minute film in seven days. Each university has 16 finalists and then the winners in various categories advance to the national competition at a big event in Hollywood.

Our entry – ‘Sam and Sam Throw a Mexican Fiesta’ was a finalist for San Francisco State University and won a Silver Tripod Award for Best Story. We now move on to the national competition to compete for the Gold Tripod in the same category. If we get enough YouTube views we could also get back into the main category and compete for Best Comedy or Best Picture.

The film was heaps of fun to make – we involved a lot of our friends and shot in our house and around our neighbourhood! We shot using a skeleton crew of one – Graham Curtis, who did the camera, sound recording and directing – while Sam and I acted as exaggerated, ignorant versions of ourselves.

Check out the whole film here:

Wrap on Hero

Shooting has wrapped on my graduate short film ‘Hero’.

It took us seven days (mostly nights actually) to shoot the sixteen page script in over 70 shots and three locations, covering twelve scenes. We had a top notch cast and crew and really worked hard to try and produce something interesting and professional.

Very pleased with the initial results and looking forward to the edit!
